Investment Agreement for Rail Connectivity Between IKA City and APRIN Finalization

The investment process for developing a rail connection between Imam Khomeini International Airport City and APRIN Dry Port is moving toward finalization, following advanced negotiations with the project investor, according to the CEO of Imam Khomeini International Airport City. The agreement is expected to be signed in the near future as discussions continue to progress.

According to IRNA, Iran Railways and Imam Khomeini International Airport City signed a cooperation agreement last year to strengthen rail–air connectivity and support the development of integrated logistics capabilities at APRIN Dry Port, one of Iran’s major rail-based inland logistics hubs.

Located near Imam Khomeini International Airport City, APRIN Dry Port serves as an Integrated Logistics Hub supporting the connection of different transport modes. The planned rail link is expected to enhance cooperation between air cargo, rail freight, and inland logistics operations, creating greater efficiency across the supply chain.

The initiative aims to support the development of a future Tehran Logistics City by integrating rail and air transportation capabilities. This connection will enable airport logistics facilities to benefit from rail access, while railway operators and logistics companies can utilize the cargo handling, storage, and distribution capabilities available within the airport city.

Under the proposed plan, APRIN Dry Port will be connected directly to Imam Khomeini International Airport City through a dedicated rail link. Several design options have been evaluated to determine the most efficient infrastructure solution.

Rail Link to Strengthen Multimodal Logistics Connectivity

Ramin Kashef-Azar, CEO of Imam Khomeini International Airport City, stated that negotiations with the project investor are currently at the final stage and expressed optimism that the investment agreement for the rail connection will be signed soon.

He highlighted the project as one of the key initiatives presented during the investment attraction program, emphasizing its potential contribution to the development of Iran’s logistics infrastructure and multimodal transportation capabilities.

According to Kashef-Azar, the rail connection to APRIN Dry Port will create an important link within Iran’s integrated transport network. The approximately 8-kilometer dedicated rail connection, designed as a branch line, will provide a direct link between the airport, the national railway network, and APRIN’s cargo storage and distribution capabilities.

He added that the project can contribute to reducing transportation costs while improving the speed, efficiency, and reliability of cargo movements.

Building a Comprehensive Logistics Investment Model

Kashef-Azar emphasized that the project is being considered as part of a broader investment package designed to create an economically viable logistics solution rather than simply developing a standalone rail connection. The objective is to establish an efficient and sustainable logistics ecosystem that supports the long-term growth of Imam Khomeini International Airport City.

If implemented, the project will represent an important step toward transforming Imam Khomeini International Airport City into a multimodal transportation and logistics hub. The connection between air and rail infrastructure is expected to create value for the private sector, strengthen national logistics capabilities, and enhance Iran’s regional logistics position.
