APRIN Dry Port to Connect with Imam Khomeini Airport’s Air Logistics Network

According to a report by TIN News citing Iran Railways, APRIN Dry Port is one of Iran’s major rail-based Dry Ports, strategically located near Imam Khomeini International Airport City, an emerging air logistics center.

As part of the plan to transform these two facilities into a future Tehran Logistics City, Iran Railways and Imam Khomeini International Airport City have signed a cooperation agreement to integrate rail and air transportation capabilities. This initiative will enable the airport city to benefit from rail connectivity, while railway operators and logistics companies can utilize the cargo handling, storage, and distribution capabilities available within the airport logistics network. The project represents an integrated approach to maximizing existing infrastructure and investment capacities.

Under this plan, APRIN Dry Port will be independently connected to Imam Khomeini International Airport through a dedicated rail link, with several design options currently under evaluation.

Regarding the latest progress of the rail connection project between Imam Khomeini International Airport City and APRIN Dry Port, Ramin Kashef-Azar, CEO of Imam Khomeini International Airport City, stated that negotiations with the project investor are currently at the final stage. He expressed optimism that the investment agreement for the rail link would be signed in the near future, considering the positive progress of discussions.

He noted that the project is among the key initiatives presented during the investment attraction program and has the potential to make a significant contribution to the development of Iran’s logistics infrastructure.

Kashef-Azar emphasized that the rail connection to APRIN Dry Port will create an important link within Iran’s multimodal transportation network. The approximately 8-kilometer branch rail connection is expected to establish a direct link between the airport, the national railway network, and APRIN’s warehousing and cargo distribution capabilities.

He added that the project can contribute to reducing transportation costs while improving the speed, efficiency, and reliability of cargo movements.

Kashef-Azar further explained that the project is being considered as part of a broader investment package designed to create an economically viable logistics solution supported by complementary logistics capabilities. The objective is not only to develop a rail connection, but also to establish an efficient and sustainable logistics chain that supports the long-term growth of Imam Khomeini International Airport City.

He concluded that, if implemented, the project will represent an important step toward transforming Imam Khomeini International Airport City into a multimodal transportation and logistics hub. The integration of air and rail connectivity can create value for the private sector, strengthen national logistics capabilities, and enhance the regional position of Iran’s logistics network.
